Wild Florida - Loxahatchee

May 8, 2022 | 07:00 AM

J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area in Loxahatchee lies just 25 miles northwest of West Palm Beach. Yet this primitive 60,000-acre refuge (no bathrooms, no drinking water, no cell phone reception) is completely off the grid. Serene and majestic, the refuge is filled with exotic plants and animals. A 25-mile, winding, crudely paved road runs through the natural area, in addition to several often wet walking trails. Currently, the 1.25-mile boardwalk going through the cypress swamp is being repaired and closed.
