The Art of Florida's Highway Men - Wellington
Feb 12, 2022 | 09:00 AM
Enjoy this interesting exhibit at the Wellington Community Center in Wellington of 26 self-taught African American artists from Fort Pierce and Vero Beach in the 1950s, who were unable to sell or display their artwork through traditional art galleries or art agents. They began selling their art to businesses as they traveled along the road and became known as the Highwaymen. In addition, R.A. McLendon - who started his painting career in 1955 and was a key member of the Highwaymen - will be painting on site.
